female lower abdominal pain can indicate a serious of problems. Most commonly this occur due to period or menstruation. We investigate causes of abdominal pain.
- Menstrual pain
Due to releasing blood from uterine, women have pain in the back and abdomen area. It occurs once a month. You can use medications to relieve the pain. Applying a warm pack is recommended.
Hormonal changes lead to premenstrual syndrome, with symptoms such as, back pain, severe abdominal cramps and breast tenderness.
Abdominal cramp, pain in sexual intercourse, abnormal vaginal discharges and fever are symptoms of pelvic inflammatory disease, which treats by using antibiotics. This problem can lead to damages of uterus, fallopian tube and ovaries, and in severe cases can cause infertility.
- Ovarian cysts
Abdominal pain is a common cause of ovarian cysts. In most cases, these cysts are harmless and remove over the time. But if you have severe pain, refer to a gynecologist. In severe cases, surgical treatment is used.
Uterine fibroid is a common disease among women. In this disease, benign masses, which are non- cancerous grow inside the uterus wall. Refer to a gynecologist if having back and abdominal pain, severe bleeding and painful intercourse.
Endometriosis is a common causes of abdominal pain. Growth of uterus tissue outside the uterus and in ovaries, pelvis, bladder and fallopian tube, is called endometriosis.
Gynecologists determine causes of abdominal pain by:
- Considering characteristics of the pain, such as location, pattern, duration and symptoms of the pain
- Doing physical examinations
- Doing surgery or endoscopy
